Getting a Drivers License

If you are a resident, you must have a Honduran drivers' license. If you are on a tourist visa, you only need your passport and valid foreign drivers' license. The written test for the license is in Spanish only but the license office in Roatan is usually helpful and will let you bring a translator. The office in La Ceiba conducts the test twice on Tuesday; at 8am and 1pm. Be in line early as only the first 40 in each group get to proceed that day. Class and test are in Spanish. Spelling counts.  Driving test includes backing into a tight spot. There is a dress code for the test, so, no shorts.

Introduction

My wife and I first visited the island of Roatan in 1992 and have loved the place ever since. We have long planned on retiring early there and as we approach age 60 plans begin in earnest. I see a lot of good information passing around on various Roatan-focused groups and I have decided to blog the information for my own use at least.
